Christmas Break

It’s the festive period so eat, rest and be merry safe in the knowledge we’ll be here in January to re-energise you and get you shedding those excess pounds you may have gained.

It may not be the usual message from gyms but a rest may be just what you need to recharge your batteries ready to train even harder and smarter next year.

We will be closing from Thursday, December 17 and we’ll make our last class of 2015 an open class so all can attend. We will be open again from January 4 allowing you to start 2016 as you mean to go on and with a team of professionals dedicated to helping you achieve your goals.

For those existing members who still need your Muay Thai fix during this holiday break, keep checking Facebook as there will be some ‘flash openings’ of the gym by our trainers.

In the meantime, have a very safe, happy and relaxing Christmas and we can’t wait to see you all fired up and ready to be part of some serious Muay Thai action in 2016!

Gradings in October

All students will have the chance to take their next gradings this month.

Beginner Junior grades 1-3 will take place on Saturday, October 17 at 9.30am. Advanced Junior grades 4 and above will be held on Friday, October 16 at 5.45pm. This will mean there is no sparring class that day.

All grades for adults are on Wednesday, October 21 at 8pm, straight after the beginner class.

Gradings are the ideal way to assess your progress and to move your way through the class structure.

Remember to ensure you have your licence. Please speak to Sai or one of the instructors if you have any questions about your grading.

New timetable starts Saturday!

We are making important changes to our class timetable as we continue to strive to ensure all students receive the best Muay Thai tuition possible.

The new timetable will start on August 1 so please look on this site to find out what changes have been made and make sure you get to the right class.

We’ve made these changes with our students in mind. We have introduced additional junior and beginners sessions to manage the sizes of these, our most popular classes, so students get the best attention.

New fitness and conditioning sessions have been created for those wanting to improve their stamina, suppleness and overall fitness levels.

There are also opportunities for different levels to train alongside each other to help inspire their learning and give more experienced students the chance to support newer members of our Muay Thai family.

The new timetable and class information will be uploaded to this site after the classes on Friday, July 31, so make sure you check them out to plan ahead for your training the following week!

Reasons to grade

Remember when you struggled to land a knee properly or nail that combination of punches? You’ve probably already forgotten those early challenges and accomplishments because you’re now trying to master a new technique like a jumping knee or a spinning kick.

It’s important, however, to take the time to appreciate how far you’ve come and understand where you’re at, otherwise you can feel like you’re not getting anywhere. This is where gradings can prove so valuable.

Students often mistakenly view gradings as exams intended as a means for instructors to judge them. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Gradings are there so you can see just how far you have come and to highlight areas which could benefit from extra practice. This will help to focus your training so you get the most out of the time you commit to Muay Thai.

As instructors, we see your improvement week in and week out but the gradings give you a chance to see it yourself. On days when you feel frustrated it can be useful to look back at your certificates and kruang ruang (armbands), whether they’re framed on a wall or pushed in a drawer, to remind yourself that there were other times you got frustrated… but then you cracked it.

If you would like to grade, the next opportunity is Friday, July 17 at 7.45pm for adults and Saturday, July 18 a 9.30am for juniors.

Make the grade in May

The next grading sessions will take place in May to allow students to test their knowledge of the syllabus and move up the class structure.

For juniors the grading will take place on Saturday, May 2 at 9.30am. Adults will grade on Friday, May 8 at 7.45pm. Please ensure you have your licence and grading fee on the day.

If you need more information about the gradings, please speak to Sai or one of his instructors.

Results from Undefeated

Studio 2000 fighters once again did their gym proud at the Undefeated fight night at the iPro Stadium last weekend.

Alan Whitton of Studio 2000 won his first A Class, Full Thai Rules fight against Mat Reading from Chok Dee Acadamy in York. Both fighters showed the effectiveness of Muay Thai’s full aresnal of weapons in a gripping fight with precision elbows, knees, kicks and punches. Alan took the fight on a unanimous points decision.

Studio 2000’s Adam Townsend was defending his unbeaten record against Luke Davis from K-Star in Birmingham in a B Class bout. Adam’s superb clinchwork stopped Luke in the second round to win him the fight in style.

Also representing Studio 2000 at the iPro was junior fighter Jacob Mordecai. He narrowly lost out to a much taller opponent but showed his usual grit, determination and skill to the crowd.

Thanks to all the gyms and their fighters who helped to make the night, courtesy of Sai Varley, another resoundidng success and thank you to all those who came to show your support and created an amazing atmosphere.

Class changes this Friday

We hope you are looking forward to the Undefeated fight night at the iPro Stadium this weekend!

Due to Saturday’s event there are some changes to the usual class timetable.

As the weigh-in is being held at the gym on Friday night at 6.45pm, the Transitions class will be moved forward to 5.45pm and the Sparring class will be cancelled.

Saturday’s open gym will still run as usual.

We hope to see you at the event!

It’s (nearly) showtime!

It’s nearly time…

In just a week, fighters from across the country will arrive in Derby to test their skills and showcase the art of Muay Thai.

Studio 2000, courtesy of Sai Varley, will host “Undefeated” – the latest top class fight night to be held at the the iPro Stadium in Pride Park on April 18.

We say it every time but these shows really are a class act, with a four-course meal, table service and of course a display of dynamic Thai boxing.

If you haven’t been to one of Sai Varley’s shows before, check out our YouTube site to see our Undefeated highlight real and videos of previous fights – including that of Adam Townsend who will defend his unbeaten record on the April 18 show. These should give you a taste of what’s in store!

Details of weigh-ins and directions will be posted on this site nearer to the night but in the meantime, if you have any questions or are interested in tickets, contact us via the form on our contacts page or message us on our Facebook or Twitter accounts.

What’s in store

The next Studio 2000 fight night is just round the corner and this time there will be an added extra for you Muay Thai fans.

On April 18, as well as the usual top class meal and fights at the iPro Stadium, Pride Park – courtesy of Sai Varley – there will also be an equipment sale so you can kit yourself out with the latest Muay Thai gear. Make sure you bring some extra cash!

As always, Studio 2000 fighters will be proudly representing their gym at the event. Adam Townsend will be defending his unbeaten record for this “Undefeated” show while Alan Whitton will be fighting his first Full Thai Rules, A-class bout. Fresh from his latest victory earlier this month, junior fighter Jacob Mordecai will be demonstrating his skills in front of a home crowd.

Make sure you contact Sai if you want tickets and keep checking this site and our Facebook and Twitter accounts for further updates as we approach fight night.
