New Timetable 2019

December marked the anniversary of Studio 2000’s first year in our new Liversage Street venue. Kru Sai and all the Studio 2000 instructors would like to take this opportunity to thank our members for making 2018 such a great year.

We have updated the timetable for 2019 taking on board your feedback. Please visit the timetable section of the website for full details. Our timetable includes lessons for complete beginners, covering Grades 1 and 2, to advanced, junior and fitness classes. Once adults have passed their second grade, they are able to attend all other adult classes, as long as they have the correct uniform and safety equipment.

And here’s to 2019 – we’re looking forward to helping you all achieve your goals in the New Year.

Class changes due to Fight Night

As you should have heard, Studio 2000 is presenting a night of world class fights, including a World Title bout, at the iPro Stadium on Saturday (November 24).

With fighters coming over from Italy and more than 15 fights on the card, it will be a fantastic evening for all who have tickets.

Due to weigh-ins taking place, there will be no classes on Friday, November 23. There will be no adult Saturday classes either as we gear up for the event that evening.

Thank you to all those who have supported the night so far, either through buying tickets and/or helping our fighters get in such superb shape.

We’ll see you there!

Mason’s fighting spirit is lesson to Type 1 diabetes sufferers

As today is World Diabetes Day, we would like to share the inspirational story of one of our Junior Instructors.

Nine-year-old Mason Stanley is adamant his Type 1 diabetes will not get in the way of his sporting goals.

After dedicating four years to Thai Boxing – or Muay Thai – Mason this year achieved the highest goal of a ‘red armband’.

It means he is now a Junior Instructor in the martial art and can help Sai teach other young students at Studio 2000.

The route to red was not easy as Mason, from Mickleover, has to wear a pump on his thigh to administer insulin on a daily basis. He has to input the amount of carbohydrates he eats into the pump and this calculates the amount of insulin required.

His Type 1 diabetes means his pancreas does not produce any insulin which is needed to help turn glucose into energy for the body. He therefore has to carefully monitor his insulin, food intake and exertion during exercise to make sure he doesn’t become hypoglycaemic.

Mason has been interested in martial arts ever since his older brother, Tyres, starting training under Sai and he did not want his condition to stop him taking part too.

“Muay Thai is fun, challenging and helps me focus,” he said.

Mason trained hard, entering junior competitions and working his way up through the grading system to achieve Junior instructor level.

Sai said Mason set a fantastic example to other students, both juniors and adults.

“Dedication and resilience are important parts of success in all areas of life but particularly in sport and martial arts,” he said. “Mason has shown both qualities in abundance and I’m proud he has earned his red armband.”

Mason’s mum, Lisa, said his success at Studio 2000 has boosted his confidence even further.

“Since joining Studio 2000, Mason is a lot more confident, especially in talking to others and his confidence has improved when trying to explain himself. Helping Sai with teaching has helped considerably.”

Studio 2000 trains children from six years upwards and prides itself on helping youngsters gain self esteem, particularly those who have suffered or are suffering from bullying. If you are interested in finding out more, don’t hesitate to get in touch with Sai via the contact tab.

Gradings in September and October

October 8 will see the start of a week of grading opportunities. Gradings will be held for junior beginners during both Tiny Thai and Teenage Thai classes that week. Advanced junior grades will be conducted at a later date.

Adults from Beginner level up to Grade 4 will be able to take their gradings on Wednesday, September 26th from 8pm.

Remember to make sure your licence is in date and speak to Kru Sai if you have any questions.

June-ior gradings!

A new month and a new opportunity for our Juniors to test their skills with our next grading.

The next Advanced Junior grading will take place on Saturday, June 16 at 10am. As always, make sure licences are up to date and speak to Kru Sai if you have any questions.

These dates are an opportunity not only to move up through the grading system but also, more importantly, for juniors to assess their understanding of the skills they have been learning during the classes. This helps to identify their areas of strength and those where they can improve.

Grading for adult members

Adults going for their grades 1 to 3 have the opportunity to grade on Monday, April 30 from 8.30pm. Please make sure your licences up to date and speak to Sai if you have any questions.

Gradings are a great way to demonstrate how your skills have improved and areas you can work on in the classes.

Studio 2000 fighters light up Leicester show

Studio 2000 fighters travelled to Valley Suits in Leicester on Saturday, March 3 and put on a superb show, bringing home four wins and a full house of fantastic performances.

Lianna Shilton (10yrs) won her fight, as did Marcus Smirnovs (11yrs) while Karam Toor (13yrs) became new K1 champion in his first fight after winning on points. Amar Samra (12yrs) also had his first fight on the day and lost narrowly by 1 point after a fantastic performance. Mason Stanley (10yrs) similarly lost on points.

Kye Souden took a big step up, taking on his first Adult N Class fight at 16 years old and was clearly up to the challenge after winning on points.

Thanks to all those who travelled to Leicester to help and/or support and also to instructors back at Studio 2000 for taking the classes. All those who sparred and trained with our fighters are also part of the Studio 2000 family success.

The next show will be at Wicker Camp in Sheffield on Sunday, March 25 when Kye fights again and we have eight adults fighting for the first time.

Junior and adult beginner gradings in March

There will be opportunities for juniors and beginner adults to progress their Thai training through gradings in March.

All junior grades will take place during ordinary lesson times to minimise inconvenience. Children should attend the grading taking place during their usual class time. Those who train several times a week can choose which session they would like to grade during.

Junior gradings will take place as follows:

Monday, March 5, 5.30pm – Teenage Thai
Wednesday, March 7, 5.30pm – Tiny Thais
Saturday, March 10, 11am – Tiny Thais
Saturday, March 10, 12pm – Teenage Thai

There will be a beginner adult grading session on Monday, March 5 from 8.30pm for grades 1 to 3. This takes place straight after the beginner class.

Please ensure your licence is up to date before you grade. For information about grading requirements, please speak to Sai.

Junior grading in November

All Juniors will be able to take their next gradings on Saturday, November 25. The gradings, for levels 1 to 6, will take place at 10.30am at our temporary location at MCSDA in Chaddesden, just before the Junior class is held.

This grading is particularly important because when we move into our new gym in Castleward, classes will be organised by grade level.

Please bring licences in to Sai before November 25 so that he can check they are up-to-date. Anyone who does not bring in a licence will not be eligible to grade. The correct uniform must be worn for all levels other than first grade and the correct grading fee paid on the day. Check with Sai for details.
